MUltiple indicator cluster survey (MICS) Studies

A robust research base shows that parental physical punishment is associated with greater risk of child behavior problems, child maltreatment, and adult mental health problems. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has called for eliminating all forms of physical punishment of children. Over the past two decades, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has administered Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) in over 100 LMICs to evaluate parenting and child wellbeing. This research project uses MICS data to examine the associations of parenting behaviors to child socio-emotional development across LMICs included in the MICS surveys.
